Wellness Initiatives in Weld RE-5J

Behavioral Health- Student behavioral health includes social, emotional and mental health needs as well as the substance use behaviors of students. Research shows when schools have systems that create positive learning environments in place, this creates an improvement in behavior, attendance and academic performance. Weld RE-5J strives to create a safe, comfortable and nurturing environment in each of their schools that allow students to flourish. It’s the goal of the wellness committee to provide strategies and resources that will carry them through childhood, adolescence and adulthood.

Nutrition- Research shows that a nutritious diet can improve focus and behavior; reduce the risk of obesity, dental cavities, and chronic health conditions; improve grades and test scores; and increase attendance rates. Weld RE-5J provides a school nutrition environment that allows students to learn about and practice healthy eating. It is the goal of the wellness committee to give students the skills required to make healthy dietary choices that will empower them and help them embrace lifelong healthy eating habits.

Fitness- Physical activity and exercise can have immediate and long-term health benefits. Research shows that physical activity can improve concentration, memory, and classroom behavior; decrease stress and anxiety; reduce some risks of heart disease and stroke; and boost academic test scores. Weld RE-5J strives to provide knowledge, skills and an attitude needed to become healthy, active adults.
