Mr. Wailes was first elected to the Board of Education in 2017 and serves as the Board’s President. He is a third-generation native to the Johnstown/Milliken community and a graduate of Roosevelt High School. He is the sales and marketing manager for Black Mountain Bison and his wife is a special education paraprofessional in the district. They have one child who is a Weld RE-5J student. Mr. Wailes has been appointed by the State Board of Education to serve on the Capital Construction Assistance Board which administers the Building Excellent Schools Today (BEST) grant. He also represents Weld RE-5J on the Centennial BOCES Board of Directors. An advocate for local control and strong, well-equipped leadership, he is also a Legislative Delegate to the Colorado Association of School Boards (CASB).

Mr. Wailes has a strong desire and vision for Weld RE-5J to be an example of how community engagement, investment, and support can lead to higher levels of student achievement.
